Finding New Paths...

I arrived this morning to find Mom doing much better. I have observed her entire therapy team in action and it is quite something! The key now is for mom to rewire her brain, and the faster she does it, the better. All the things that Mom struggles to do are the things that we need to make her do. The brain will rewire, but it needs a constant workout! We are foucsed on relearning the very movements we all take for granted, like adjusting your eyes when your head moves, or a looking at an object without moving your head. However, her reading is improving and her writing is coming along, too. She even did a word search and a crossword puzzle. Mom went onto this blog this morning and got caught up on everyone's nice posts. Yes, and she got to the blog herself! I told her next time, she was going to have to post something.

It appears that she will be at Herrick at least through the 20th. But she needs to be able to not use her wheel chair for basic getting around the house before they will send her home. She still tires easily because everything takes work-forming words and sentences, holding on a conversation etc. But this too, will improve with time.

I am off to deliver thai food for lunch. Gaylen

A note from your Cousin David:
Julia-
Just received an email from Alissa updating me on your progress. Please remember patience, and that we all are stuffing energy into your speedy recovery. I know when I am a patient , sometimes its a struggle.

We had a great time on our motorcycle trip and saw country that either you need a motorcycle or horse. Motorcycles are amazing in that respect.

I dont know if we can do this again, but it will be a trip that will feed my artistic nature and soul for a long time. The down side of a group ride is the tendency to ignore the desire to stop and enjoy for fear of not meeting the group agenda. For that reason I like single rides, or with Jan because we tend to think alike. Of all that we saw the Okanogan area in Washington, and central Idaho were my scenic favorites.

In Idaho we did probably 300 miles plus on forest service dirt roads at high altitude, which was amazing. Canada was very rural and quite beautiful as well. New Denver, and Nelson were our two stops in BC, with good overnight accommodations and great food. The best food on the entire trip was at the period hotel in Nelson BC.

I am tentatively planning a trip to see you but will need some guidance from you when you are able to see me. I understand your rehab is undefined at the point, so when you get a better perspective on time and motion please let me know.

I love you and want the best of course for you. Too that end you have a wonderful family that are surrounding you.

Best to everyone
David

Hi Julia: So happy to hear that your stay at Herrick is going well albeit tiring, I am sure. Life will be a bit busier as I jump into the 9 to 5 fray AND we'd like to see you when you feel up for it in the coming days. Please, if you can think of anything I can offer to your or Ang,Alissa,and/or Gaylen, do not hesitate to ask! Lots of love and healing energy, Cindy and JaNell

Dear Julia,

You have always grabbed hold of new things and new challenges with reckless abandon, and we expect the same from you in this new endeavor. I am sure that it is tough but you are up for it.

I returned from our conference in Toronto last night and we are going up to Geyserville this morning. I would love to drop off some tomatoes for you when you think you are up for it. We think of you constantly.
